According to recent research, the employment services industry agrees with the recent economic forecasts of better economic conditions ahead, however this sector is concerned the labour market is not keeping up with economic growth.
The employment service industry's peak body, the Recruitment and Consulting Services Association (RCSA) recent quarterly survey of members has seen a significant shift in attitudes regarding the economy and labour force.
Julie Mills, RCSA CEO said the survey results showed mixed fortunes for the sector.
"We have seen business confidence grow by five percent in the last quarter with expectations that business volume will grow by six percent. Yet when members were asked what was their main concern for the present and near future, the number one response was lack of suitable candidates. This question normally ranks fifth out of the eleven questions that members are asked to rank," Julie said.
The buoyancy of the Sunshine Coast labour market and its low unemployment rate has been a concern for one of the Coast's leading recruiters for some time.
According to Chris Whisson, Director of the EastCoast Human Resource Group "the Coast is screaming out for some occupations and we just can't get enough doctors, nurses, lawyers, legal secretaries, financial planners and tax accountants," he said. "We are finding it increasingly difficult to find certain skilled labour despite our ability to get the message to a national audience via major Job Boards on the Internet. Intestate salary packages in capital cities are significantly higher than here on the Sunshine Coast and good candidates are not convinced they should drop tens of thousands of dollars to live work and play in paradise."
